What to expect during brazil butt lift surgery recovery?
After a brazilian butt lift you are required to stay of your buttocks for at least the first 3 weeks. The least you put pressure by sitting on it the best it would be. The transfer required blood supply to help the fat cells to survive.
I recommend my patients if the job involved sitting to sit on a boppy. BBL or any pillow the helps them stay off there butt. (Orlando Llorente, MD, Miami Plastic Surgeon)
As you might have already noticed from the previous answers, there is no solid scientific data on how long you can safely sit down on your butt after a BBL before you destroy the fat newly transferred and for how long you need to abstain from putting pressure onto that area.
The baseline theory behind it is the more pressure you apply, the less is the blood flow to that area and as such the less the take if the newly injected fat.
This is all logical but it lacks the clinical studies which are considered the gold standard in medicine. Saying this, all the time lines given by the doctors to their patients on this question in particular are arbitrary and at best can be considered an expert opinion which in science it means level 5 evidence.
What I usually tell my patients to do is to spend most of their time standing or sleeping inorder to avoid putting pressure on that area.
I usually tell them to do this for about 2 weeks as I belive that in 2 weeks most of the tissues should have vascular iced and if they did not then most probably they are dead and will get resorbed anyways. I hope I did not complicate things for you and I was able to answer your inquiry. (Shady Hayek, MD, Lebanon Plastic Surgeon)
I recommend patients to not sit for 2 weeks due to the physiology of graft take and I have greater than 80% of graft take with compliant patients. Fat graft gets its nutrients from diffusion and eventually new blood vessels grow within 2 weeks.
Pressure on the buttocks pushes nutrients and blood flow away from the graft which could compromise take. I also require patients to avoid all forms of smoke including e-cigarettes and second hand smoke. (Christopher J. Kovanda, MD, Minneapolis Plastic Surgeon)
Sitting on the Brazilian Butt
No sitting for two weeks after the fat transfer to the buttock. Sleep face down. Not on your side. No sitting at the dinner table, or at a desk, or behind the wheel of a car. Protect the buttock while the fat is trying to settle in and make a new home there. (Andrea Paolo Basile, MD, Naples Plastic Surgeon)
I recommend no sitting after a Brazilian Butt Lift for about 2-3 weeks. This is a very important part of the recovery stage and can greatly impact your result. The pressure from sitting can compromise the blood flow to the area and reduce the “take” of the fat cells. As with all surgeries there is a commitment on your part to follow post surgical recommendation and needs to be factored in as part of the whole process. (Alfred Sofer, MD, FACS, Fairfield Plastic Surgeon)
Sitting too soon can affect your BBL results.
The first two weeks are the most crucial in terms of optimizing the percentage of fat cells that actually survive. I am extremely conservative with my patients and encourage them to refrain from applying pressure for 4-6 weeks. It might be excessive but the results speak volumes. (Aaron J. Mayberry, MD FACS, Albuquerque Plastic Surgeon)
It is very possible that sitting down that many hours a day 5 days a week can affect a BBL, when it is early in the postoperative period. Be sure to discuss with your surgeon, but we usually advise to stand if you can for a small amount of time so that you do not have constant pressure while sitting. (Shain A. Cuber, MD, Edison Plastic Surgeon)
Its known that adipocytes (fat cells) are very sensitive to pressure changes during the first three weeks after surgery, because of this its recommended not to sit for more than 20 minutes during this period of time. After these time the fat cells grafted should be well irrigated and there shpuld be no problem sitting. (Kemil Issa, MD, Dominican Republic Plastic Surgeon)
