He then completed his medical degree at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, where he also completed his residency. He then completed a fellowship in burn reconstruction at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston with Shriners Hospital for Children before going into practice.

Dr. Mehta is board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. He has received membership into the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society.
