Possible complications from a brazilian butt lift
A brazilian butt lift can have complications like any other procedure. Fat injections may not take, you may ge an infection, have assymetry, unfavorable scarring, contour irregularities, lumps, numbness, seromas, fat necrosis, and hematomas to name a few. (Steven Wallach, MD, New York Plastic Surgeon)
These complications are the same as liposuction and lipoinjection in nearly any body location and are related to poor fat survival (lumps, bumps, nodules, overcorrection, undercorrection fibrous encapuslation of fat) with aysmmtery from one side to the other and possible pain or discomfort.
Another risk is inadeaute fat harvest as well as donor site irregularity. Changes in weight, either up or down can have unfavorable consequences. (Otto Joseph Placik, MD, Chicago Plastic Surgeon)
Safety of Brazilian Butt lift when done right
When the Brazilian Butt Lift is done right it is a virtually risk free procedure. In the link below I go over the main details of the procedure as it should be done to ensure good fat graft survival, thus long term results. The video goes over the techniques that ensure fat graft survival. Ask the surgeon how he does it, and compare it to these well known techniques. (Ricardo L. Rodriguez, MD, Baltimore Plastic Surgeon)
The risks of a Brazilian Butt lift include swelling and bruising, asymmetry, and a possible need for a revision surgery at a later date. These complications are very similar to the risks that you will encounter with liposuction. Before your surgery is essential to discuss your goals and expectations with your plastic surgeon and be very specific about the areas that you want treated and the ultimate size you like your buttocks to be.
Also discuss with your surgeon what postoperative garments they recommend and be sure that the garments have a dual function so that it will compress in the areas that have received liposuction but that they will not put pressure on the areas that are newly grafted.

Brazilian butt lift is quite safe…
A Brazilian butt lift involves taking fat that was removed via liposuction and reinjecting it into the buttocks area to increase the volume of the buttocks. The risks of a safely performed BBL are minimal. Realistic expectations are important to have.
Some risks include: bleeding, infection, scarring, wound healing problems, donor site irregularities from the liposuction, injury to bodily organs from the liposuction cannula, numbness, fat necrosis, oil cysts, lumpiness, partial or complete loss of fat, need for multiple fat grafting sessions, etc. In general patients do really well with the operation.
The downtime is less than that of buttocks implants with a lower overall risk profile. Because fat grafting is involved, however, the results are not as predictable as those obtained using implants. Many people with extra body fat choose BBL because they like the idea that it uses their own tissues and does not involve creating any large incisions on the body. Additionally they get the added benefit of liposuction contouring on multiple areas. So while their buttocks get larger, the rest of the body gets more svelte from the liposuction. (Manish H. Shah, MD, FACS, Denver Plastic Surgeon)
