To perfect his skills, he went on to complete a residency in General Surgery at North Carolina Memorial Hospitals in Chapel Hill; a residency in Plastic, Maxillofacial and Oral Surgery at Duke University Medical Center in Durham; and a Hand Surgery residency at Kleinert Institute for Hand and Microsurgery in Louisville, Kentucky.

Today, Dr. Timmons is board-certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. He is also a member of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) and American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), and is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS).
