How much does the nose grow with age?
Nose changes with age
Sep 12, 2018
Although you are correct in your assertion that by the age of 20 growth is completed, various dimensions of the nose will change further with age. In particular, the support tissues dependent upon collagen will weaken with time leading to drooping of the tip. There may also be thickening of the skin over the nose. This is particularly the case in men and specifically over the tip. The detrimental changes to skin tone and tissue support are increased by alcohol, smoking and poor diet…
When to Stop Drinking Alcohol Prior to Surgery?
Alcohol before surgery
Sep 12, 2018
If I were asked this by a patient I would say the question might suggest a significant weekly amount and if so it would be useful to quantify this. Large amounts can affect healing and coagulation. From a purely anaesthetic point of view, a high alcohol intake might alter the way the general anaesthetic was processed and therefore the patients response to it. The anaesthetists I work with always ask about alcohol intake at the preoperative assessement on the day of…
Swollen and Big Nose Tip After 3 Months of Rhinoplasty?
post op swelling at 3 months
Sep 6, 2018
Its frustrating when after a rhinoplasty a result isn’t apparent even after 3 months. I would be patient. Looking at your photos there is a definite profile difference between the pre and post op photos. The tip swelling is the slowest to resolve however. Ironically it tends to look larger because the swelling over the nasal bones and mid third goes down much quicker. As your surgeon said, thicker skin takes longer to settle, particularly over the nasal tip. It is likely that at…
When Did Swelling Go Down After Your Rhinoplasty Surgery?
post op swelling after rhinoplasty is variable
Sep 6, 2018
There are a number of factors that will influence post operative swelling following a rhinoplasty
On the whole I tell my patients to expect the majority of the swelling to have subsided after a month but there are variations in the different subsites of the nose. The first area to go down is over the nasal bridge. This area is often almost completely resolved by two weeks post op. The next area is the mid third- this can take a further 1-2 weeks by which time around 80-90% of the swelling…
Can I start with home-exercises 4 weeks after rhino/septoplasty?
getting back to the gym
Jul 12, 2018
I can see you’re itching to get back into your normal routine and I see this a lot with patients. I usually advise that gentle exercise is ok after a month but extreme exercise can lead to swelling in the soft tissues particularly around the tip and mid third of the nose. Essentially if the size of the nose has been reduced by the surgery, the skin envelope that is left is larger than the underlying bone and cartilage. This leads to ‘dead space’ which is initially filled by blood. Tapes…
Bad Nose Job
getting the nose you want
Jul 12, 2018
I’m guessing you’ve already had a conversation with your rhinoplasty surgeon? What did he/she say? Did they acknowledge the areas you were unhappy about? Did they put forward a plan for correction. If you haven’t had that chat yet then you must. Following that before you go through any more surgery ensure that there is a definite surgical path that is explained to you together with attendant risks. Ask for photos of patients who have gone through similar procedures so you have an idea…
What kind of revision rhinoplasty do I need? I have a round circle on the tip of my nose.
tip revision
Jul 12, 2018
Looking at the photos you have posted it looks like the bump on the profile has been corrected but the natural tip you previously had is now pronounced. It isn’t clear from your post what kind of rhinoplasty you underwent and what was done to the tip in terms of grafting and it would be useful to know. You appear to have thin skin and this usually comes with strong cartilage meaning that cartilage changes may show through the skin when healing has settled giving more definition than was…
