How to sit after brazilian buttlift surgery?

Brazilian but lift depends on fat that is harvested from other areas to develop new blood supply in the area (buttocks) where it is injected.

Surgeons will do everything possible to increase the survival of this transferred fat. The only remaining factor is how the area is taken care oh after surgery. This part is completely up to the patient.

The less pressure put on the area (garment not counting) the better likelihood of higher fat survival. Recommendations vary from 2 weeks to 4weeks of avoiding sitting. (Shahriar Mabourakh, MD, FACS, Sacramento Plastic Surgeon)

Brazilian butt lifts rely on fat transfered from unwanted regions and then reinjected to the buttock. Part of the success of the procedure depends on the post operative care of the patient.

We mandate the patient does not sit at all on their buttock for a minimum of two weeks. Even at this point, the retention of the size of the buttock will improve with more time off from sitting.

Try not to place direct pressure on the butt when first beginning to sit and rather place it on the posterior thigh region. (Joel B. Beck, MD, FACS, Bay Area Plastic Surgeon)

Brazilian Butt Lift and Recovery

The recovery time from liposuction and the Brazilian Butt Lift is usually 1-2 weeks, and so you shouldn’t be sitting at all for a week or two after the surgery.

If you need to sit for a long period of time, please do it 2-3 weeks after the surgery. There will be some bruising and tenderness in the areas where lipo was performed. (German Newall, MD, Houston Plastic Surgeon)

The fat that is transferred will survive from the existing blood vessels in the buttock. If the fat or “graft” moves to much, the tiny blood vessels that are starting to form will be broken resulting in the loss of that fat. That is why most surgeons will not let you sit on your buttock for 2-6 weeks. (Robert Najera, MD, Frisco Plastic Surgeon)

After a BBL, you cannot sit on your buttock area for two weeks. I recommendpatients take off two full weeks from work, if their job requires long periodsof sitting. Minimizing the pressure on the area allows the fat cells time to attach to the blood supply in the buttocks and remain viable.

Once the fat becomes viable it becomes a part of your buttocks just like the current fat and tissue you have now so it should not be affected by prolonged sitting. It is possible later on that your body may change due to significant weight gainor weight loss or pregnancy.

If this happens, the fat grafting can be done again to revise the contour of your buttocks provided you still have enough fat to transfer. Be sure to research for board certifiedplastic surgeons in your area. (Morgan E. Norris, MD, FACS, Houston Plastic Surgeon)

Post Brazillian butt lift protocol

I usually advise my patients to avoid sitting on their butt for 3 weeks after the procedure. They have to sleep prone, to avoid pressure while sleeping too. After 3 weeks, they can do pretty much everything, however if the profession requires prolonged sitting in a chair through a larger part of day, we recommend a donut shaped pillow to take the pressure off the fat grafts for 2 weeks more. (Sameer Karkhanis, MS, DNB, India Plastic Surgeon)

Recovery after a brazilian buttock lift

I recommend to my patients to try and avoid direct pressure and sitting on the surgical area for up to 2 weeks. Sometimes there are multiple procedures being done and it may be unavoidable. So I suggest rotating on your side and belly when sleeping with pillows, positioning for comfort. (David Stoker, MD, Los Angeles Plastic Surgeon)

Sitting on Brazilian Butt Lift

I tell patients not to sit on their buttocks much at all for the first two weeks. This is very important because sitting can crush the fat and cause the fat cells to die from suffocating the fat cells from their blood supply.

Sitting can also displace the fat cells and cause a misshaped buttocks and push the fat to far to the side or down the back of the leg. I tell patients that if they can’t stand up at work, then they may have to plan a vacation and take the two weeks off. I have had some patients go back to work before 2 weeks, but adapt their workstation to allow adequate padding on their buttocks. (Stanley Castor, MD, Tampa Plastic Surgeon)
