How long I can not sit after brazilian buttock lift?

In a brazilian butt lift, fat is transferred from various parts of the body to the buttocks to re-shape and augment the buttocks. After the procedure, it is crucial to minimize or avoid sitting for prolonged periods. The reason is that the fat has not integrated to your tissues so the buttocks may flatten or loose projection. Further, sitting causes trauma to the newly placed fat so the process of blood vessel ingrowth, which is necessary for fat survival, may be disrupted.

So I recommend that my patients minimize sitting for one month. If you have a sitting job, we usually provide a donut-shaped pillow to minimize the trauma from sitting. But one should still minimize sitting if possible.

After one month, I allow my patients to sit regularly although many continue to avoid it for several weeks. Please call a board-certified plastic surgeon for a consultation. (Moises Salama, MD, Miami Plastic Surgeon)

After a fat transfer the new fat cells must be revascularized by the blood vessels in close proximity to the fat cells in order for them to survive and function as the augmentation graft. This requires a number of steps to occur.

One of these steps is for the blood to have full flow or access to the fat. If a patient is sitting on the augmented buttock then the grafted area will have constriction of the blood supply and there will be loss of some or possibly all of the new fat cells. After three weeks the patient is allowed to sit on the grafted area for about 30 minutes at a time. (Paul Vitenas, Jr., MD, Houston Plastic Surgeon)

You should avoid sitting for 3 weeks or sit with an open back chair for limited time periods where pressure is not placed on the buttocks.

In my plastic surgery practice in Jacksonville, patients have returned to work with modified sitting positions as soon as 2 weeks after surgery and we have had excellent results. The reason behind avoiding pressure is to allow as much fat as possible to revascularize and survive to maintain the surgical result with time. (Ankit Desai, MD, Jacksonville Plastic Surgeon)

Seating does affect the results, it is recommended to avoid excessive seating and do some low intensity exercises specially at the beginning for best results. Try to avoid long periods of seating or use a donut to reduce the stress placed on your buttock. (Jonathan Fisher, MD, Miami Plastic Surgeon)

Frequent sitting should not affect the brazilian butt lift results of your surgery. You can be normal. (Jhonny Salomon, MD, Miami Plastic Surgeon)

The pressure of sitting after a fat transfer procedure to the buttock can harm the fat cells and affect your result. I recommend patients avoid direct sitting for at least two weeks after surgery, and ideally, up to six weeks for best results.

You can use pillows and cushions to reduce the pressure on the transferred fat while returning to work about one week later. You should also sleep on your stomach for the first several weeks as well. (William Bruno, MD, Beverly Hills Plastic Surgeon)

Brazilian butt lift and sitting down

Immediately after a Brazilian butt lift, sitting down can have negative effects on your result. Different surgeons have different protocols regarding how long they want you to abstain from sitting down, it should be a minimum of 7 days, I generally recommend 10-14.

After two or three weeks they fat transplants are solidly healed and it should be able to sit down as long as you want. We have not observed any negative effects of sitting b eyond two weeks of Brazilian butt lift surgery. (Alexander Aslani, MD, Spain Plastic Surgeon)

Will sitting lead to distortion of buttock after Brazilian Butt Lift

I allow my patients to sit immediately after the procedure. I have not had any distortion or flattening of the buttocks. I also don’t think that this impairs the take of the fat. (Kenneth L. Stein, MD, Chicago Plastic Surgeon)

Brazillian butt lift can be affected by sitting too much during healing

After you have had the Brazilian butt lift, you should refrain from sitting on hard surfaces or sitting on any surface for extended periods of time. The fat is still ‘moldable’ in the first 3 weeks after surgery and you want to avoid making it flat. If you have to sit, try sitting forward so that the weight is on the back of the thighs and not on the buttocks.

Sleeping should be done on your tummy for the first 3 weeks as well. I have had patients come back for a check up after the procedure wearing tight underwear that caused a depression along the elastic line of the underwear. It went away, but it actually took a few days to resolve.

Bottom line (no pun intended): If you are going to have this surgery, be prepared to take some time off of work in order to have the optimal conditions for a good result. (Lawrence Tong, MD, Toronto Plastic Surgeon)

How to Take Care of Your BBL

Constant or excessive pressure can damage or kill the fat cells, leading to decreased survival and a less than optimal result for your Brazilian Butt Lift. I ask my patients to avoid direct pressure for at least a week. I also recommend garments that have no compression on the butt and have special inserts to help shape the butt.

After a week to 10 days, patients are instructed to use special pillows and pads when sitting to distribute the pressure so that flat areas and depressions are avoided. As they heal, I give patients instructions to gradually return to more and more activity. (Gabriel Chiu, DO, Beverly Hills Plastic Surgeon)

Sitting after Brazilain Butt Lift

A Brazilian Buttock Lift involves grafting fat from an area of excess fat to your buttocks. Due to the fragile nature of fat cells during this transition, we recommend not sit down for 2 weeks.

We typically advise patients to sit down only when using the restroom during the first 2 weeks.

Patients are also advised to sleep on their stomach (not even sides – we transfer fat to the hips also), for this time period. By sitting down, you compress and hurt the fat cells. (Stanley Okoro, MD, Atlanta Plastic Surgeon)
