I had PRP earlier in the year. Worked great! But now I’m diagnosed with ITP. Can I do it again or not?
PRP might be ok, but It’s hard to concentrate platelets when they start low
Aug 19, 2023
Sorry to hear about your ITP diagnosis. At our clinic, we’ve done thousands of PRP procedures. More importantly, we use a hematology analyzer to check the platelet count of the patient’s blood at the beginning of the procedure, and the PRP that is produced just before we use it. If the platelet count is not high enough, we won’t use the PRP, because it lacks enough of the active ingredient, the platelets and their growth factors and signalling proteins. Preparing good PRP is a delicate…
Why am i still shedding after going through 3 PRP for hair loss treatments?
Proper consultation and type of PRP are crucial for hair loss treatments.
Aug 18, 2023
Not all PRP is the same, and not all patients are the same. There are many reasons and types of hair loss. Androgenetic alopecia is the most common type of non-reversible hair loss in both men and women, and PRP has been shown to be a very effective treatment, but it needs to be the right type of PRP. Platelet concentration and dose are very important. Different PRP systems can produce very different levels of concentration and dose of platelets delivered in a single treatment. For example,…
Risk of shock loss from ‘ blebs’ in PRP administration?
Blebs are fine. Platelet concentration and dose are much more important.
Aug 18, 2023
Thanks for the great question. Shock loss is very rare from injections, especially if you’re using good quality PRP. I agree with injecting ‘blebs’ or deposits under the surface which would diffuse into the surrounding tissue.
Interval is important, and you don’t want to go too long between treatments. Ideally 2 – 4 weeks, with closer intervals seeming to show more benefit in a recent systematic review of the scientific literature.
Even MORE important than interval is the quality of the…
Can PRP increase the risk of facial hair regrowth in women with PCOS/hirsutism ?
Regrowth risk is low
Mar 15, 2023
Hello, I believe the risk is very low that you would see hair regrowth on your face or neck. Laser hair removal destroys the follicles, and not even PRP will be able to bring them back. PRP with microneedling (aka Vampire Facial) is a great way to rejuvenate the face. Make sure your provider is using a microneedling and PRP system which is cleared for safety by the FDA, Health Canada, or similar regulatory agency in your country. Excellent results may be seen with targeted PRP injections to…
Can I do PRP every 4-6 weeks?
Interesting results, may need more time, PRP, or alternative treatment
Feb 26, 2023
Hello, that’s great to that you are seeing such positive results from PRP in the areas you mentioned: temples, nasolabial folds and marionette lines. Typically, these areas require more volume for rejuvenation, and PRP is not as good at replacing volume as dermal filler (hyaluronic acid). Sometimes, PRP will be mixed with dermal filler for improved volumization. On the other hand, PRP seems to work better for the under eye area, especially when there is not a lot of volume deficit. PRP is…
Under eye texture/bumps/fine-lines aging me. Treatment options?
I recommend high quality PRP or PRF
Feb 23, 2023
The undereye area is one of the first to show signs of aging, due to the very thin skin in this area, only 0.3mm thick. This area may show dark circles, volume loss, crepey skin, or some combination of the above. Both PRP (platelet-rich plasma) and PRF (platelet-rich fibrin) have been shown to be helpful for treating the undereye area, improving dark circles, skin laxity, wrinkle scores and photoaging. This was highlighted by a recent systematic review and meta-analysis by Evans et al….
Would it be beneficial to get two PRP injections 1 week apart?
One week seems a little too close for repeat PRP treatments. 2-4 weeks is better.
Feb 22, 2023
Great question. It does take time to see the results from PRP injections under the eyes. Although multiple sessions usually work best for the undereye area, one week apart seems like a little too soon. A recent review of 19 separate studies using PRP for the under eye area (Evans 2021), showed intervals of between 14 – 56 days between treatments. The most common seems to be every month, but in my experience there seems to be a better long term effect by having treatments a bit closer…
