You are a candidate for Bariatric surgery. Your insurance may cover it if you have Bariatric coverage and obesity related health problems

Post cholecystectomy syndrome
May 23, 2020
Yes weight loss surgery will help. Your issues with diarrhea may or may not improve. Often after enough time the problems you have will likely resolve. I would choose sleeve or bypass based on your current bmi and medical problems. For bmi less than 45 without diabetes a sleeve is probably fine. If your bmi is greater than 45 or you have DM I’d recommend bypass. If serious reflux issues probably also bypass.

BMI over 50 and can’t lose weight
May 15, 2020
With a bmi over 50 the sleeve probably isn’t the best option. Studies show the risk of weight regain is higher in patients with pre operative bmi over 50. Also studies show inferior weight loss after sleeve compared to other options such as duodenal switch for patients with bmi of 50 or greater. Insurance would cover if Bariatric coverage included in your policy.

Band revision to sleeve
May 7, 2020
Removing the band and having a sleeve, gastric bypass, or duodenal switch is safe and very effective. The band has basically gone by the wayside due to poor and unreliable results as well as complications. The other 3 procedures are much more reliable and effective
Do you recommend gastric bypass for Type 1 diabetic patients who also have insulin resis
Dm1 and wanting to get pregnant
May 3, 2020
I have done bypass for many type 1 diabetics. I generally see at least a 50% decrease in insulin requirements in addition to great weight loss. I generally recommend waiting at least two years after gastric bypass to get pregnant. Waiting at least one year is a minimum. Having children after weight loss surgery is safer than having children while morbidly obese.

The gastric bypass and nutrient absorption
Apr 22, 2020
The traditional limb length bypass is mainly a restrictive operation meaning it restricts the amount of food you are able to eat. The absorption of calories is not tremendously affected. The bypass has the most significant effect on the absorption of iron and b12. Over time the pouch adapts and allows room for more food and empties easier which results in less restriction. The bowel may also increase its absorptive capacity as well. If you Calculate your maintenance calories…

General surgical insurance for Bariatrics

If your insurance does not cover Bariatric surgery then your insurance will not pay for a sleeve. There are some facilities that offer cash pay sleeves are a very low price that potentially rival your out of pocket cost or deductible.
