Smoking and Gastric Bypass Surgery
Smoking and Bariatric Surgery
Jun 22, 2017
Jun 22, 2017
Hello,
Lets start with smoking AFTER surgery. There is no Doctor that I know of that would be OK with you smoking (either before or after surgery). This is whether or not you have had Bariatric Surgery.
Before Surgery: Increasd leak rate, pulomonary complications, poor wound healing, blood clots.
After surgery (If bypass): Increase risk for marginal ulcers (Very Bad), gastritis, pulmonary complications and above listed issues.
In general: All of the bad things that we already know about smoking.

I had VSG about six years ago. Now thinking of bypass. Pros and cons?
Conversion of sleeve to bypass
Jun 22, 2017

Hello,
Yes, in the situation of inadequate loss with subsequent regain, conversion to bypass would be a good option. In addition to this, if you are now having reflux after the sleeve, this would be addressed by conversion as well. Reflux could be an issue in th efuture if not addressed.

Will type two diabetes be treated after the Gastric Bypass?
Remission of Diabetes after gastric bypass
Jun 22, 2017
Jun 22, 2017
Hello, yes, the likelihood that diabetes will go into remission are very likely (around 80-90%). The bypass causes production of hormone from the intestine called GLP-1 (Glucagon like peptide 1 ) that causes this to happen.
