Statement: Michael Moses, MD, FACS, has practiced for nearly 40 years in New Orleans. Dr. Moses loves to spend time talking with his patients in order to learn about their lifestyle and aesthetic tastes before helping them to decide on a surgical plan. While he is known for his natural, attractive patient results, Dr. Moses believes that patient happiness is the ultimate standard of a good surgical result. For this reason, patients can expect their first consultation to take a full hour.

A native New Orleanian and graduate of Yale College and Tulane medical school, Dr. Moses has served on surgical faculty at Yale, Harvard, Tulane, and LSU School of Medicine. In his spare time, Dr. Moses enjoys golf, fly fishing, and spending time with his 6 grandchildren. He loves New Orleans food, music, and art—and, of course, the Saints.

Doctor’s answers

Question
Answer Header & Date
Answer Snippet
Is it possible to breastfeed after breast lift surgery?
Yes
Jan 25, 2021
If you breastfed 4 children without problems before your lift and augmentation, I feel that the odds are in your favor to breastfeed this new baby as well.
How long do I have to sleep on my back after a breast augmentation?
Approximately 2 weeks
Jan 25, 2021
I recommend to my patients that they sleep on their back for the first 2 weeks after surgery. We recommend that they sleep with their bra on during this time as well. After 2 weeks, patients can try sleeping on their side. Most patients do not feel comfortable sleeping on their stomach for the first 6 weeks after surgery.
Breast Lift versus Breast Augmentation
Lift vs Augmentation
Jan 25, 2021
You will need a breast lift if you feel that your breasts are too droopy. You will need breast implants if you feel that your breasts are too small. You may need a combo if you feel your breasts are too small and too droopy. Implants do not lift breasts, this is a common misconception. Once we discuss your goals and examine your breasts, we can create a specialized plan to achieve those goals.
When Does Swelling After Breast Augmentation Begin to Subside?
Swelling after a breast augmentation
Jan 25, 2021
You are definitely still swollen at 5 days post-op. Swelling takes months to go down but the majority goes away within the first 6 weeks after surgery. I recommend that patients wait 6 weeks after surgery to get a proper bra size fitting.
Am I suitable for a lift without implants?
Lift without implants
Jan 25, 2021
You are definitely suitable for a lift without implants if you are happy with the current size of your breasts. The lift would reduce the size of your areolas and give you perkier breasts.
Would combining a breast lift and lipo be a good option for me?
Combining a breast lift and liposuction
Jan 25, 2021
Combining a breast lift and liposuction would be a good option for you. We would ask you to refrain from exercise for 2 weeks but you could return to work and other daily activities at about 1 week post-op.
Does scarring ever fade completely after a breast lift?
Type of breast lift and scarring
Jan 25, 2021
Based on the pictures that you submitted, I would recommend a full mastopexy. The scars would be around the areola, in a vertical line from the bottom of the areola to the fold underneath the breast and a horizontal line scar within the fold. This type of lift would reduce the size of your areola. The scars never go away completely but do get better as time goes on. There is a great scar cream that we recommend after surgery which greatly improves the appearance of the scars.
What kind of incisions or techniques leave the least amount of scarring in a breast lift?
3 types of breast lifts and what they acheive
Jan 25, 2021
The crescent mastopexy has the least amount of scarring. The incision line is a half circle around the top of the areola. This lift lifts the nipple-areola complex about 1-2 cm but does not do much for skin tightening. The donut mastopexy has a circular scar around the entire areola. This lift reduces the circumference of the nipple-areola complex (making the areola smaller) and lifts the nipple-areola complex a couple of cm. It has a little more skin tightening than the crescent mastopexy…
Can I get a breast lift without implants if I’m happy with the size but want perkier breasts?
Absolutely
Jan 25, 2021
If you are happy with the size of your breasts, then a lift is all you need. Implants make breasts bigger, they do not lift breasts. In my practice, I have seen many unhappy patients who went to other plastic surgeons desiring a lift and were told implants would do the trick. These patients feel worse than they did before surgery because now they have bigger, droopier breasts.
Would I be a candidate for eyelid/ptosis surgery? Would this be considered cosmetic or medically n
Eyelid Surgery
Oct 8, 2020
An upper blepharoplasty is the surgery to consider when the upper eyelids droop, look saggy and hooded and sometimes obscure our vision. It is often covered by insurance if you fail a visual fields test, which mean the upper lid skin is impairing your vision. This test is done by an opthamologist.
Is just getting your tip reconstructed less invasive than the full rhinoplasty?
Tip Rhinoplasty
Oct 8, 2020
A tip rhinoplasty is typically less invasive than a full rhinoplasty. For a full open rhinoplasty, a small incision will be made in the columella (the space between your nostrils) and in the nose. Through these incisions, the nose is reshaped the nose by changing the bones and cartilage of the nose to create a better shape. After your rhinoplasty, a simple dressing is applied to minimize the swelling. A tip rhinoplasty does not involve breaking the nasal bone, so there is less bruising.
I think I have tired eyes because of the upper eyelids. What should i do to fix that? Ptosis surge
Tired Eyes
Oct 8, 2020
Based on the photos that you submitted, you would benefit from an upper blepharoplasty. Blepharoplasty removes the excess eyelid skin and fat, and tightens the muscles around the eyelids. Your eyes will be brighter, making you look younger and rested. Eyelid surgery is the most natural-looking of all plastic surgery procedures.
What to expect during recovery of BA?
Breast Augmentation Recovery
Jan 3, 2017
Recovery from breast augmentation surgery does vary for each patient. However, there are a few standard restrictions for your recovery. You will be restricted from cardio activity for 2 weeks and upper body heavy lifting for 6 weeks. Most patients are off prescription pain medicine in a few days and back to work within one week. Additional details specific to your case will be discussed at your consultation.
