What Can I Do to Lessen Scars After Blepharoplasty?
Scars after blepheroplasty
Jun 14, 2018
I try to minimize scars by using strict sterile technique to minimize changes of contamination during the surgery.  Meticulous hemostasis (minimizing bleeding) may also help minimize post-surgical inflammation and scarring.  For closure, I try to place deep sutures to reduce empty space and the chance of fluid collections.  Incisions should be closed with appropriate tension.  Too much tension and scars can widen.  Superficial sutures are placed to align the skin edges.Postop...
How Can I Fix One Drooping Eye?
Eyelid drooping can be from multiple causes
Jun 14, 2018
Post hoc, ergo propter hoc?  Just because the contact on the right eye was left in too long does not mean it was causal to the eyelid problem.  The temporal relation could be coincidental.Eyelid drooping can be from: a redundancy of skin, weakness of the levator palpebrae superioris, dehiscence of the levator palpebrae superioris from the superior tarsus, weakness of Mueller's muscle, or related to excess brow ptosis.Depending on the cause of your eyelid drooping, this cause could then be a...
Eyelid Surgery Recovery
Each patient is different.
Jun 14, 2018
Patients typically go home the day of surgery.  Patients need somebody else to drive them home (not Uber) and be with them the first night after anesthesia.Swelling generally maxes out at 48 hours.  Different patients have various levels of bruising, depending on just skin or skin and fat resection.Sutures are removed during the first week after surgery.Return to work depends a lot of the type of work somebody does - telework is easier, in-person sales is harder.Every patient can be di...
An injector put dysport in my upper cheeks. 3 days post, and fat "hangs over" my smile line. What are
The good and the bad
Jun 14, 2018
Dysport results are not permanent, which means that people often need maintenance treatments to sustain their results. However, if the results are not exactly what you want, they are not permanent either.Best of luck and please seek out an in person evaluation with a physician for a specific answer to your situation.
Pierced Ear Hole Removal - Lobe - Both Ears - Embarrassing
Pierced-ear-hole removal can be performed in the office
Jun 12, 2018
There likely still an epithelial tract that is shedding skin. This could be removed under local anesthesia in the office. An incision line would be visible, but should fade with time. This should solve the "pore" problem.
My patients generally are able to go to work the next day. Sutures are either removed in a week or dissolve by themselves.
Best of luck!
How Much Does Earlobe Repair Cost?
Costs vary by city, provider, as well as insurance coverage.
Jun 12, 2018
Call your insurance company and see what your benefits are. They may need the following codes: Diagnosis: H61.111 (right) H61.112 (left) H61.113 (both). Procedure: 13152 (complex laceration repair, 2.6-7.5 cm) or 14050 (local tissue rearrangement, ears).
"Cash" prices in an office will likely be between 500-1500 for both ears.
Remember that if you have the procedure performed in an operating room, facility and anesthesia fees will apply....
I need to repair a torn earring hole. How can I do it?
Torn earring holes can be repaired easily.
Jun 12, 2018
This is a quick and easy procedure that I really enjoy doing in the office setting.
I generally numb the ear with an injection. Then I excise the skin on the inside of the "tear." This results in what would otherwise be an ear laceration. Then I close the ear laceration with sutures which either dissolve or are removed a couple of days later.
Patients go back to work the next day.
But I don't know how "you" would do it. I certainly couldn't do this...
Can I Close Normal Ear Piercings?
Normal piercings can close
Jun 12, 2018
I would first consider not wearing the earrings for a month or so. Some earring holes can close by themselves.
If they do not, or if you don't have the time, the piercings holes can be excised and re-sutured. Technically, its harder to excise a small hole than a large one - just like its harder to remove a grape seed than an avocado seed.
After the excised piercing holes heal, the ears could be re-pierced.
Please see a local surgeon for a specific opinion to your situation.
My Nine-year-old's Ear Piercing Ripped, Not All the Way Through, but Close?
A conservative course may be best.
Jun 12, 2018
A fresh wound will try to heal itself. I would consider removing the earring and letting it heal. It may heal quite well and no further procedures may be needed.
If after healing, the earlobe needs re-piercing, that could be considered then. If it does not heal well, then surgery could be considered.
So I would be conservative before going for a procedure.
As for age, ear lobe repair can be done under local anesthesia - but this may be impossible with a 9 year old....
Otoplasty Suture Complications
Sounds like an inflamed suture...
Jun 5, 2018
Sounds like an inflamed sutures, good news is that it is now out!
When I have a patient that is nervous, I try to make them feel more comfortable by some self-deprecating humor. "You are making me nervous." or "I am going to have to go and take a smoke after this one." (I don't smoke). Usually this gets a smile. I hope your surgeon was able to make you feel more at ease.
There is no way to know 100% if something is causing a problem. We are not...
Is There a Surgery to Remove Excess Skin from Behind Ears?
Skin removal is what plastic surgeons do!
Jun 5, 2018
Excess skin from behind the ears could be removed by making an elliptical incision. Then the edges would be pulled back together. Because the incision line would lie behind the ears, it would be well hidden. All the sutures could be dissolvable.
This procedure could be performed in the office setting under local. The patient would go home immediately after, and should be able to return to work in a day or so. Strenuous activities such as contact sports should be...
Fear This Was a Bad Otoplasty. What Should I Do?
Challenge with otoplasty is undercorrection.
Jun 5, 2018
Ask your doctor about this one, but here are my general thoughts.
Its hard (but possible) to over-correct an otoplasty because the ears tend to resume their native shape with time.
The first week after surgery is a time to look for problems such as infection and bleeding. Final results will take time.
A revision to an over-correction may just require some local anesthesia and some suture removal.
But see your doctor. They may have a good reason for choosing the surgical plan...
Otoplasty Revision After 1.5yrs, Can It Be Done Under Local Anesthesia?
Many surgeries can be done under local anesthesia.
Jun 5, 2018
I generally make the decision on local versus general by looking at the extent of the procedure, the anxiety level of the patient, and need for refinement.
Local anesthesia does have the benefit of allowing the patient to participate in surgical decision making. Best of luck on your journey!
Help with Sagging Earlobes
Invisible tape would be truly amazing...
Jun 5, 2018
Earlobe support tape works by distributing the weight of earrings to parts of the ear lobule other than just the piercing. Often the earlobe support tape is placed behind the ear, so it is hidden.
Invisible tape would be truly amazing...but how would you see it to put it on? Do you open the box and there is nothing there?
Nothing is truly invisible.
Stretched or torn ear lobe repair is a predictable, and relatively easy in-office procedure. Then the invisible ear tape...
Can You Get Rid of Pointy Ears?
Shape is more important than size.
Jun 5, 2018
You ear is pinched at the top. But what is most visible is the point. The easiest thing would be to excise the superior aspect of the pointed ear and connect the two resulting helixes. This would result in better contour.
Other surgeons would be correct to critique this solution as more camouflage than true reconstruction of the pinched portion of the lateral helix. True reconstruction would require cartilage grafting and possibly some post-auricular flaps...
