Statement: Why did I do a second residency in plastic surgery? After five years of otolaryngology I could have done a year of facial plastics and called it a day. My patients generally are able to go to work the next day. Sutures are either removed in a week or dissolve by themselves.
Best of luck!

"Cash" prices in an office will likely be between 500-1500 for both ears.
Remember that if you have the procedure performed in an operating room, facility and anesthesia fees will apply....

I generally numb the ear with an injection. Then I excise the skin on the inside of the "tear." This results in what would otherwise be an ear laceration. Then I close the ear laceration with sutures which either dissolve or are removed a couple of days later.
Patients go back to work the next day.
But I don't know how "you" would do it. I certainly couldn't do this...

If they do not, or if you don't have the time, the piercings holes can be excised and re-sutured. Technically, its harder to excise a small hole than a large one - just like its harder to remove a grape seed than an avocado seed.
After the excised piercing holes heal, the ears could be re-pierced.
Please see a local surgeon for a specific opinion to your situation.

If after healing, the earlobe needs re-piercing, that could be considered then. If it does not heal well, then surgery could be considered.
So I would be conservative before going for a procedure.
As for age, ear lobe repair can be done under local anesthesia - but this may be impossible with a 9 year old....

When I have a patient that is nervous, I try to make them feel more comfortable by some self-deprecating humor. "You are making me nervous." or "I am going to have to go and take a smoke after this one." (I don't smoke). Usually this gets a smile. I hope your surgeon was able to make you feel more at ease.
There is no way to know 100% if something is causing a problem. We are not...

This procedure could be performed in the office setting under local. The patient would go home immediately after, and should be able to return to work in a day or so. Strenuous activities such as contact sports should be...
Jun 5, 2018
Its hard (but possible) to over-correct an otoplasty because the ears tend to resume their native shape with time.
The first week after surgery is a time to look for problems such as infection and bleeding. Final results will take time.
A revision to an over-correction may just require some local anesthesia and some suture removal.
But see your doctor. They may have a good reason for choosing the surgical plan...

Local anesthesia does have the benefit of allowing the patient to participate in surgical decision making. Best of luck on your journey!

Invisible tape would be truly amazing...but how would you see it to put it on? Do you open the box and there is nothing there?
Nothing is truly invisible.
Stretched or torn ear lobe repair is a predictable, and relatively easy in-office procedure. Then the invisible ear tape...

Other surgeons would be correct to critique this solution as more camouflage than true reconstruction of the pinched portion of the lateral helix. True reconstruction would require cartilage grafting and possibly some post-auricular flaps...
