After bariatric surgery, especially gastric bypass, there is an increased risk of becoming alcohol dependent for up to 30% because the nature of the procedure, alcohol gets in contact with the small bowel faster and it is easily absorbed. This is why it is very important that patients have postoperative follow-up with the bariatric team to help them detect and overcome any obstacle that could happen. Greetings!
