How deep must Botox be injected for masseture reduction?
Proper Depth for Masseter Injections
Jun 2, 2019
Thank you for your question, and it is a good one.
I agree with Dr. Roba. The proper depth for masseter injections is right on to bone to ensure both the deep and superficial parts of the muscle are injected. A good clue to check is if the injector is using a longer needle (at least a half inch needle needs to be used). If injected superficially, two things are possible. Firstly, on clenching, if untreated, the deep part of the muscle will bulge through the weakened…

Vertigo occurring after Botox
Mar 3, 2019
As an Ear, Nose and Throat specialist with a large experience in treating patients with Botox as well as 25 years practicing ENT with a large dizzy and vertigo focus to my practice for many of those years I can certainly state that Botox simply would not have caused vertigo. Vertigo in fact being a type of dizziness and not necessarily a diagnosis. The poster below mentioned that as you have been diagnosed with vestibular migraine (actually the commonest cause of dizziness and vertigo) , the…

Botox for facial slimming (and pain)
Feb 14, 2019
Hi Katie:
Thank you for your question. I perform this treatment for many patients, probably 50% for facial slimming alone and the other 50% for facial pain in the masseter region or headache triggered by jaw clenching. It is a really effective and very predictable treatment with very little risk and no downtime. There should be no problem in receiving Botox injections after the jaw surgery that you describe. It is important to see a provider who does these injections correctly as…
Can Masseter Botox be an effective treatment for pain associated with first bite syndrome? An
First Bite Syndrome Management
Jul 20, 2018
Hello and thank you for your question. I am sorry you are having to deal with this painful condition. Although I have not had to treat a patient with First Bite Syndrome with Botox, the medical literature does have a number of studies and case reports of Botox or other neuromodulators being a helpful treatment, albeit to decrease the sensation, not necessarily to create no sensation. The dose range seems to vary and I suspect it would be a trial and error approach as to how much…
Does Botox for wrinkles between eyes cause vertigo?
Vertigo is not caused by Botox or sinusitis
Jan 22, 2018
Hello and I am sorry that you are experiencing vertigo. As an Otolaryngologist (Ear, Nose and Throat specialist) who deals with vertigo and other forms of dizziness frequently, I can reassure you that your Botox treatment was not related at all. In addition, sinusitis also does not cause vertigo. Please see an Ear, Nose and Throat specialist for a diagnosis and treatment plan.
Masseter muscle Botox gone wrong. Is there anything I can do on my own or should I see my doc
Post masseter muscle injection
Nov 10, 2017
Hello and I am sorry that things are not going smoothly for you. Without pictures and especially without the ability to examine you in person, it is a bit hard to be sure, however, I suspect that a blood vessel was inadvertently injured during your injection and the swelling that you are experiencing is a deep hematoma (bruise/collection of blood), in the masseter muscle which has caused it to swell and to still be painful when you clench and use/tense the muscle. If I am correct, this…

Frey Syndrome after parotidectomy
Nov 6, 2017
Hello and thank you for your question.
You are describing symptoms that definitely are compatible with Frey’s Syndrome. I cannot explain the symptoms on the opposite side and suspect they are unrelated. I have treated a number of patients with Frey Syndrome with Botox injections to very good effect and duration of effect is generally much longer than in excessive sweating in other areas (hyperhidrosis). It is important to have the injections done after the Minor’s Starch-Iodine…
