Answer Snippet
I’m on week 3 post op and I have chest tightness after every solid meal and can’t keep it down
chest tightness
Oct 13, 2015
You should return to your surgeon for follow-up. I often prescribe sublingual levsin for these symptoms and it works quite well.
Can lap band be switched to sleeve?
slipped lap band
Oct 13, 2015
Safest option is to do this in 2 steps: 1) remove the band first, and 2) return to surgery 3 or more months later to convert to sleeve.
How is the intragastric balloon removed?
balloon removal
Oct 13, 2015
It is removed the same way it was put in via the endoscope down the esophagus into the stomach. From there the balloon is deflated and pulled out.
What should I expect after having my intragastric balloon removed?
life after balloon removal
Oct 13, 2015
You will be able to eat normally. If the balloon was associated with nausea, then it should go away. You should continue the diet started while the balloon was in place to continue weight loss or maintain it.
I want to ask you if I am on medications, can I still have gastric bypass surgery?
medications with gastric bypass
Oct 13, 2015
Those two medications will not prevent you from having surgery. They are commonly used these days and their doses will not need to be altered after surgery.
Hiatal hernia repair or revision to a gastric bypass along with hernia repair?
sleeve and hiatal hernia
Oct 13, 2015
If you have significant acid reflux from your stomach into your esophagus, then conversion to gastric bypass + hiatal hernia repair will be helpful. The key to a good hiatal hernia repair in mobilizing the lower esophagus so that it sits comfortably in the abdomen without tension. Re-inforcing the diaphragm repair with mesh is also be something I would add.
Will having surgery in Mexico compromise my relationships with my US doctors?
surgery in Mexico
Sep 21, 2015
If you have surgery in Mexico, it is unlikely you will get assistance from your local bariatric surgeon. The best choice for patients is to seek care from a surgeon in the US who is close to home.
