The most common signs of a hematoma after breast implant procedure are severe pain, swelling and often bruising on the affected side. When suspected it is mandatory to be evaluated by the operating surgeon. While placing a drain into the wound around the implant will often help to decompress the breast by removing at least some of the blood it is NOT adequate treatment. The patient needs to be returned to the operating room and have the breast incision reopened….
