Should I stop using epiduo after 8 months? It is clearing my skin but causing red irritated s
Epiduo
Aug 19, 2016
I’m glad to hear that your skin has improved with your current treatment. If you think the redness and peeling are due to Epiduo, you can try using it less frequently e.g. alternate nights or twice per week as this may increase tolerability. Always use it in the evening, rather than in the morning as it makes your skin more sensitive to the sun. You can also apply a non-comedogenic moisturiser 15 or so minutes afterwards. If this doesn’t help, please see your dermatologist in case there…
Is this Melasma or is it a Cafe Au Lait Spot?
Melasma
Aug 19, 2016
Hi. Your photo looks like melasma, but I would suggest arranging a face to face dermatology consult given your medical history and the other features you describe. Best wishes.
Bruising under eye after Botox and should ice be used before and after injecting Botox?
Bruising after botox
Aug 13, 2016
Many injectors will administer botox below the eyes for this reason. Unfortunately small bruises do sometimes occur – it is unusual in my practice but I always warn of the possibility when I take consent. Your bruise will settle but it may take 7 – 10 days. I would suggest buying some Dermablend to camouflage it. Ice is unlikely to be useful at this stage. You could try Arnica but I tend not to find it particularly helpful!
About acne: This is my second day taking doxycycline pill. I see my face getting worse. (phot
Too soon
Aug 13, 2016
Yes, it’s too early. Improvements can take several weeks and I usually tell my patients to wait 3 months before the optimum results can be appreciated. With regards to skincare, you are best off checking with your own dermatologist as it depends on your skin type and whichever other topical therapies they have prescribed.
How much of a cumulative dose would you expect for someone who is 65kg and has truncal acne?
Dosing
Aug 13, 2016
Hi. I presume you’re referring to isotretinoin. The recommended cumulative dose is 120 to 150 mg/kg.
How can I get rid of small colorless bumps on my forehead?
Comedones
Aug 13, 2016
Hi Christine. From your photos it looks like these are closed comedones, which is a form of acne. A few things can help (or a combination of these): tretinoin cream at night, salicylic or glycolic acid-based skincare products, manual extractions by a suitably qualified facialist, electrosurgery e.g. hyfrecation or oral treatment e.g. isotretinoin or the combined contraceptive pill.Of course best to see a dermatologist to confirm diagnosis and advise!
If I only get 5 or less units in my glabella, do I still risk droopy eyelids?
Droopy eyelids
Jul 27, 2016
Experienced injectors know the landmarks to avoid ptosis (droopy lids). If it is your number 11 lines that are causing you most concern, your physician can just stick to injecting your glabella and avoid your frontalis (forehead) which means the risk of droopy brow or lids is even smaller!
