Christine Fisher, MD, FACS

Name: Christine Fisher, MD, FACS
Statement: Dr. Christine Fisher is a board-certified plastic surgeon, fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and clinical assistant professor of surgery and perioperative care at the University of Texas Dell Medical School in Austin, Texas. She specializes in cosmetic surgery of the breast and body, as well as implant-based and living tissue breast reconstruction for breast cancer patients at Austin Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery. In her eight years of practice, she has performed more than 1,500 DIEP flap reconstructions and more than 2,000 microvascular breast reconstructions with a greater than 99% success rate.

Experienced, knowledgeable, and compassionate, Dr. Fisher believes that cosmetic and reconstructive surgery should provide both physical and emotional wellness.

“I’m not here to tell the patient what ‘needs’ to be ‘fixed,’” says Dr. Fisher. “I’m here to listen to the patient, and to translate that into a safe plan that will optimize the aesthetic outcome. Whether I’m reconstructing a breast due to breast cancer, or performing a mommy makeover for a selfless mom who’s given birth, breastfed, and raised children, I look at it the same way: I am the patient’s quality-of-life surgeon. I am so glad I’ve chosen this path in life. I can’t imagine not doing it, and I’m grateful for the whole experience. I always tell my patients, ‘Thank you for letting me be your doctor.’ I love those moments where we get to high-five over what a beautiful and natural-looking result they have.”

Dr. Fisher received her medical school degree with honors from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. She then completed an integrated plastic surgery residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. There, she won the Gold Foundation Humanism and Excellence in Teaching Award twice and the Department of Plastic Surgery teaching award three times.

During this same period, she studied the applications of adipose-derived stem cells and fat grafting in soft tissue restoration as a research fellow at the Armed Forces Institute of Regenerative Medicine (AFIRM) and trained in microsurgical perforator flap (DIEP flap) breast reconstruction at Magee-Womens Hospital.

Elected by her peers to be included on Texas Monthly’s Texas Super Doctors: Rising Stars list, Dr. Fisher regularly earns recognition for her outstanding contributions to cosmetic and reconstructive surgery. Dr. Fisher is proud to serve on the Medical Advisory Committee for the Breast Cancer Resource Center and to be a sponsor of Art Bra, a charity that raises money for women affected by breast cancer.

I am 5 days post op after a tummy tuck and worried about the line in the middle?
Results will settle and look more natural in time
Sep 30, 2019
Hello! Thanks for your question and the photo. At five days post-op, you still have plenty of recovery time ahead of you — which means you also have plenty of time for your results to change, settle and become more natural-looking. Rest assured that it is still much too soon to be concerned about what you see. In all likelihood, the area around your navel will become smoother as your swelling goes down and as your skin adjusts to its new positioning. You can always contact your plastic s…
I have dark redness on the lower half of both breast after breast reduction. Is that normal?
Discoloration can be a normal side effect, but best to see your surgeon in person
Sep 30, 2019
Hello, and thank you for your question! Discoloration can be a normal side effect of breast reduction, and every patient’s experience with how long discoloration last is different based on their body and their surgical process. Without photos, an in-person evaluation and more information about your surgery, it is impossible to say whether your redness is part of your recovery process or if it is the result of a complication.I highly recommend scheduling a follow-up appointment with your p…
Am I a good candidate for a mini tummy tuck or a full tummy tuck? Do my breasts need a lift and/or
Good candidate for a variety of cosmetic procedures, but see a board-certified plastic surgeon
Sep 30, 2019
Hello! Thanks for your questions and the photos. Unfortunately, I’m afraid I cannot offer the personalized advice you need without a face-to-face evaluation. You seem to be in good general health with young, elastic skin, which makes you a good candidate for a variety of cosmetic procedures including the ones you mention. You should schedule a consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon. In person, your surgeon will be able to give you a better idea of how you can achieve your a…
What should I do? Get another round of lipo or a tummy tuck?
tummy tuck or liposuction
Sep 13, 2019
Hello, and thank you for your post and the photos! In your case, it is very difficult to make a recommendation without an in-person evaluation and more details about your surgical and health history. Just from the pictures, you do seem to have good skin elasticity on your stomach, which leads me to believe that you may not need a tummy tuck at this time. Liposuction may be able to remove some of the stubborn fat, though it will depend on several factors including your BMI, how much fat you…
If I get liposuction on my thighs will it make my butt look bigger?
liposuction
Sep 13, 2019
Hello and thank you for your question! Liposuction is a highly targeted procedure that only removes fat in the specifically treated area, so having it done on your thighs should not affect the size of your buttocks. Additionally, many patients do find that shaping the area around the buttocks with liposuction does make the butt appear larger by accentuating it. It is possible to have liposuction performed on the calves, but it is not very common and is not an option for everyone. You will…
