Is there a one-time procedure for deviated septum + collapsed cartilage?
Nasal septoplasty
Sep 28, 2021
You can have a septoplasty to correct your breathing. This is a very successful procedure if done correctly although the risk involved include infection, bleeding, septal perforation (1%), cosmetic change to the nose include nasal collapse/saddle nose deformity (1%) and numbness.
Correctly minor asymmetry can be quite challenging which is why fillers are sometimes the best way forward. Unfortunately all surgical procedures i.e. rhinoplasty/septorhinoplasty, carry a risk of asymmetry.
Going back to the same doctor for a nostril reduction after primary rhinoplasty?
Further surgery
Jul 23, 2020
Every surgeon will have his/her own policy on revision surgery and it is best to always inquire about this before undergoing primary surgery. Sometimes, having surgery can attenuate imperfections in another area, in your case the nostrils.
If this was not highlighted by yourself or the surgeon, one may argue it is a completely new procedure and a fee applicable. However, there is an argument that the width of your nostrils (or potential that it will look bigger after reduction surgery)…
Am I a candidate for just tip refinement/alar base reduction or should I get a full rhino
I would suggest a ‘Full rhinoplasty’
Jul 9, 2020
I think your nose would be served best by undergoing a rhinoplasty. The nasal tip as you mention can be addressed by a combination of tip refinement and an alarplasty. However doing this alone with attenuate the dorsal hump. I would suggest having this augmented at the same time to give you a better profile and a softer more balanced nose.
Is there anything that can be done for my nose? I have had four surgeries
Revision rhinoplasty
Jul 9, 2020
With revision rhinoplasty, it is important to ensure you have set goals and your surgeon understands them and is able to achieve it, particularly as you have already had 4 procedures on your nose.
You do seem to have an under-resected dorsal septum than can be corrected to give you a better nasal profile. The columella overhang is likely due to an excessively long caudal septal edge or even a malpositioned columella strut which can be addressed. A layer of temporalis fascia will help…
How can I find the best rhinoplasty surgeon?
Best Rhinoplasty Surgeon
Feb 23, 2020
Rhinoplasty is acknowledged as the most technically challenging cosmetic procedure. The are many good surgeons who perform this procedure regularly and that is the key – ensure that this procedure is performed regularly by your surgeon. Note that not all ‘cosmetic/plastic surgeons’ do this regularly and feel no shame in asking the question.
Ensure also that:
1. Your surgeon is board certified
2. Ask to see before/after pictures of his/her work
3. Ask about dig…
When Did Swelling Go Down After Your Rhinoplasty Surgery?
Swelling after rhinoplasty
Feb 23, 2020
It is expected that you will have the most swelling within the first 2 weeks after surgery. This gradually subsides over the following weeks. The appearance of the nose changes a fair amount during the first 6-12 weeks – what I akin to a rollercoaster ride – lots of ups and downs with regards to the appearance/swelling. Your surgeon will advice on skincare/massage to help this process along. The nose takes an entire year to settle but by around 4-6 months, you’ll have an idea of w…
When to Stop Drinking Alcohol Prior to Surgery?
Alcohol before Surgery
Feb 23, 2020
Every surgeon may have his/her own preference to this but I advice my patients to avoid any alcohol at least 48 hours before surgery mainly due to its dehydrating effect.
If you are heavy drinker, this is best discussed with your surgeon and certainly make him/her aware of this as this can affect you liver function and your bloods ability to clot, which is obviously important if you are having surgery.
