Are over the muscle implants for reconstruction post mastectomy in the skin that was radiated 9 years
Implant Reconstruction in Radiated Breast
Apr 29, 2018
Thank you for your excellent question. Radiation has a definite effect on complication rates. My last paper I co-authored looking at implant complications in 500 consecutive cases at Harvard showed an overall complication of 12.4% with under 2% loss of implant. Overall complications can increase to over 30% with radiation before implant reconstruction. There are several reasons for this. In your case, the skin and its small vessel blood supply has already been affected by radiation….
Are implants a good option straight after chemotherapy?
Timing of Reconstructive Surgery After Chemotherapy
Apr 29, 2018
I appreciate your question as it is a concern often expressed. The timing of reconstructive surgery post-chemotherapy has not shown to be a consistent predictor of complications. Thus, having gone through chemotherapy is not considered an issue that should impact timing. There is some data that overall, people who have undergone chemotherapy may have more minor (ie: issues that are easily treated as an outpatient) complications than those that do not, but this increase is not…
4 weeks after tummy tuck, lipo and breast lift and got this. Is this bad? Will it go away?
4 Weeks post-operative abdominoplasty, mastopexy, and liposuction
Apr 27, 2018
The pictures you displayed shows delayed wound healing, with what is called dehiscence (wound re-opening) of some of your wounds. There can be many causes for this and final outcomes vary, but it should be followed closely and you should inform your surgeon so he can appropriately examine you and decide on how best to treat this. Often, these wounds heal with time, patience, and without complication. Best.
