The DS is a very good option after a gastric sleeve. If you only have the DS portion done the weight loss will be slower, the restrictive part of the sleeve is what helps you lose weight faster. Some patients have the sleeve redon at the same time of converting to a DS.
In your case you need to consider the hearturn you mention. Consult with your dr to see if the DS is the best option for you. You may have a hiatal hernia that needs to be repaired to fix the heartburn,…

Yes! It is perfectly adequate to consider a revision from the sleeve to a DS 4 years out if you did not lose enough weight and/or are regaining. Your surgeon may decide to redo your sleeve too. We perform a barium swallow x ray to check the sleeve as part of the pre op tests and decide if a resleeve is needed to optimize results.

Although the sleeve is a very successful surgery , some patients do not do well with restrictive procedures like the sleeve. You may need a malabsorbic surgery like a Duodenal Switch of a Gastric Bypass to help you lose the weight you still need to lose and to keep it off long term.
You already have the first part of the DS done so the natural revision would be the DS vs a bypass. Your surgeon may decide to redo the sleeve at the same time depending on what size your…

The gastric bypass is the surgery we recommend for sleeve patients who do not have hernia and have not been able to control GERD with medication.
Considering another procedure may not appear to be the optimal situation but GERD can cause serious problems long term if not treated.
I would recommend consulting with a bariatric surgeon to explore your options.

Yes, you will ! This stage of just sipping will pass soon as you recover for surgery and the swelling goes down. This is the same for all weight loss surgeries by the way, not only the sleeve. Duodenal Switch and Gastric Bypass patients need to take sips throughout the day initially to keep hydrated.
You will always drink smaller amounts and at a slower pace compared to how you drank before surgery. Resist the urge to drink as you…

The Duodenal Switch is a more complex surgery which requires that surgeons be trained and specialized in this specific procedure. If a surgeon is not skilled at this surgery or does not perform it frequently he / her may not recommend it to his/her patients.
The Duodenal Switch is a very effective surgery but you need to have it done by a surgeon who has ample experience and performs it frequently to reduce your surgery risks and optimize your results…

Yes it is still offered, in fact its popularity has greatly increased over the years. In our practice over 30% of patients get the Duodenal Switch either as a first time surgery or as a 2nd step after a failed gastric sleeve or a gastric sleeve with limited results.
The Duodenal Switch is the weight loss surgery with the best long term results not only for weight loss but also for resolving most of…
