Treatment options

At your current BMI (34), insurance won’t pay for bariatric surgery. Lipsuction will not really remove that much fat — you need something more aggressive. Options would include a gastric balloon, such as the Obalon.
Why is my EGD negative if I’m waking up with a sour taste as if I’m choking and with chest pain?
More information needed

We need more information… There is a small subset of patients who develop reflux symptoms after the sleeve because of the way the stomach is cut. Your doctor may need to send you for additional studies for further information. This may include an Upper GI xray study and an esophageal manometry. These studies will provide information on the anatomy of the sleeve, as well as the function of your esophagus and stomach at moving food/liquid through from top to bottom. If reflux symptoms…
Is this normal or does it happen often and can another JP drain be put in if needed while awake?
Call your surgeon

Please call your surgeon ASAP! JP drains are left inside the abdomen adjacent to the stomach when a “split” or “leak” occurs. If the JP drain has fallen out, your surgeon need to know. Call him or her today!
I am 20yrs old I am 285 lbs and standing at 5ft6in, am I eligible for a gastric sleeve?
Yes!

Yes, you qualify! Insurance companies will approve patients for bariatric surgery if their BMI (body mass index) is above 40, and yours is 46, according to the numbers you listed. You would benefit greatly for this surgery, as you are still very young, and it would have a significant impact on your future health. Be sure to see a board-certified bariatric surgeon.
Is there anything I can be doing before, during and after gastric bypass surgery to prepare my skin
Extra skin

Unfortunately, with extreme weight loss, some skin sagging is inevitable. I recommend that PRIOR to surgery, you build as much muscle as possible with a high protein diet, and resistance/weight exercises. Hydration is very important for skin health as well.
Why is it so unaffordable to do Gastric Balloon placement/removals in the United States?
Balloon $$

Oct 27, 2017
I agree that the fee seems high. Unfortunately, without insurance coverage, the fees will likely remain as such. The balloon itself costs around $3000. Add to that the fees for the surgeon to place and remove the balloon, the fees for the anesthesiologist to sedate you for the procedure, and visits with the doctor and nutritionist during the balloon placement period — and it all adds up!
Can a fistula cause pain in epigastric area radiating to back and shoulder X 1 yr postoperative bar
Gastric fistula

Oct 27, 2017
Yes! That can be painful! A fistula is an abnormal connection between the stomach/intestines and something else (another part of stomach/intestine, the area around the stomach, or even through the skin). If you have had a gastric bypass, you may have formed a fistula, or connection, between the small stomach pouch and the remnant/leftover stomach. That can cause ulcers which can be very painful! You should seek out a bariatric surgeon who is familiar with this problem and is able…
