Is it possible to stretch my stomach after a sleeve gastrectomy surgery? How long would it take
Stretched Sleeve
Dec 20, 2017
As you get further out from surgery, your sleeve will stretch slightly. This is related to the swelling going away. This is normal, but if you are frequently “challenging” your sleeve by overeating to the point of being uncomfortable, your sleeve will stretch more and you may lose your restriction. Remember the sleeve is only a tool. It is a reminder to keep portions small. If you feel discomfort, it is your tool trying to talk to you.

I haven’t lost weight since gastric sleeve despite following the plan. What can I do?
Lack of weight loss
Dec 20, 2017
It is important to understand what to expect after surgery. The sleeve is to help control your portions but you should not expect to feel “tight” with your meals. Stop eating when you are satisfied, not when you are uncomfortable.
Separate your liquids and solids. Wait 30 min after drinking water before your meal and you can resume drinking 45 minutes after. This will prevent the food from being “pushed through” too fast.
Also, if you are exercising hard, you…

Weight Regain
Dec 20, 2017
It is important to remember that weight loss surgeries, such as the gastric sleeve, gastric bypass and adjustable gastric band are only a “tool” to help you control your portions and hunger. The gastric sleeve and gastric bypass can also improve your metabolism to optimize your weight loss. Patients may not reach their weight loss goals or they may regain weight they lost if they eat foods high in sugars or simple carbohydrates including frequent servings of fruit and…

Best options for weight loss
Dec 20, 2017
Based on your height and weight, your BMI is 40. The best way to lose weight is through good eating habits, healthy food choices and exercise, but at your BMI it will be difficult to achieve your weight loss goal alone. The gastric sleeve is a surgical tool that can help you control your hunger and your portions and will help your metabolism, which will be a very strong “tool” to help you achieve that goal weight and maintain it in the long term. The adjustable gastric band helps…

Hysterectomy after Sleeve
Dec 10, 2017
It is usually recommended to wait at least 6 weeks from your weight loss surgery before any other elective operation but you should check with both of your surgeons. If the hysterectomy is not urgent, it may be best to wait until you have lost weight before proceeding, it will make the hysterectomy easier for your gynecologist and an easier recovery for you. You also need to make sure you are completely recovered from the gastric sleeve and tolerating your diet well so…

Gastric bypass Revision
Nov 16, 2017
It is important to know what your revision surgery was. Did your surgeon resize your pouch? Have you progressively lost weight and now your weightloss has plateaued or have you had weight regain? It is important to remember the basics 1. regular exercise, 2. Good food choices, including avoiding carbs, 3. watching portion sizes. In order to look at what options are available for you I would recommend maximizing your healthy lifestyle choices and seeing your surgeon to discuss…
10 years with the lap band, it’s not full and I can’t get any food or liquid down, what do I do
Post Band
Nov 14, 2017
You need to see your surgeon to have them evaluate the band. There may be a problem with the band such as slippage or even some scar tissue that has developed under the band that can create a stricture or tight area preventing food or liquids from passing through. Your surgeon will likely try to empty any residual fluid in the band and set you up for an study where you drink dye and they take X-rays to see if the dye passes through or not. You might end up needing an urgent…
