For enhancement of the hips I strongly recommend liposuction of the waist and lower back along with fat grafting of the hips.
Implants for the hips would very likely be displaced over time and be at risk for infection and extrusion. At young age, stay away from hip implants! (Paul Fortes, MD, Houston Plastic Surgeon)
Buttocks implants are a great way to augment the buttocks; however, they will not augment the hips.
That being said, if you desire hip augmentation, I typically will liposuction the lower back when we place the buttocks implants and transfer that fat to the hips to give you exactly the look that you are asking about.
Of course, with all of our Brazilian Butt Lifts, we will do the same thing. (Sacha Obaid, MD, Dallas Plastic Surgeon)
For augmentation of the hips you cannot beat fat transfer. The same techniques used for the fat transfer in the Brazilian buttlift can be used to augment the hips and this is a common request.
Hip implants would not be advised. (Kenneth B. Hughes, MD, Los Angeles Plastic Surgeon)
I would always recommend using your own fat for augmentation and/or alteration of the contour of your buttock and hip area prior to considering implants.
If you have areas on your body where fatty tissue is in excess, this can be successfully redistributed to improve your buttock/hip profile and proportions.
The success of the procedure in achieving your goals will depend on exactly what your goals are, the amount of fat you have available, and the experience of the surgeon performing the procedure.
Buttock implants are very effective at increasing the projection of the buttocks, and can increase the width of the buttocks a bit as well, but will not generally augment the hip area. (Armando Soto, MD, FACS, Orlando Plastic Surgeon)
You need to have fat to act as a donor site for the Brazilian Butt lift. Do you have sufficient fat for this? IF NOT, then consider implants.
However, implants will only make your buttock more “perky and prominent,” which does not seem to be the problem. (Otto Joseph Placik, MD, Chicago Plastic Surgeon)
Fat transfer vs. implants
The Brazilian butt lift has become one of the most common plastic surgery procedures performed today. During this procedure we perform liposuction of selected areas, most commonly the abdomen, flanks (“love handles”), and back. The fat is processed and injected into the buttocks to create a better shape and increase volume.
The procedure produces a drastic change in the body by creating curves and “hour glass” appearance. This procedure has also surpassed buttock implants in popularity for several reasons. The first is the safety and complication rate of the procedure.
By using your own fat, complications like infection are significantly reduced since your own tissue is being used. Implants need to be removed if they become infected. Implants can also be complicated by seromas (fluid accumulating around the implant), capsular contracture (an abnormal scar around the implant), and exposure (if the incisions open up from too much sitting).
Many patients also prefer to not have anything “foreign” in their body. One of the drawbacks of the Brazilian butt lift is that not all the fat survives. Post-surgery care is crucial to achieving a good outcome.
Therefore, if you have excess fat and good skin quality, I would recommend the Brazilian butt lift. In addition, buttock implants will give you posterior projection but not hips. (Moises Salama, MD, Miami Plastic Surgeon)
Liposuction and fat grafting is a very popular combination in my practice and is also known as a Brazilian Butt Lift. With this technique we can focus on your waist, hips and sacral area with liposuction.
This will create a nice shape or “frame” to flatter your butt itself (gluteal area). We then process and clean this fat and strategically add it to your gluteal areas. The end result is tight waist, flattering hips and a shapely butt. (Pat Pazmino, MD, FACS, Miami Plastic Surgeon)
Brazilian Butt Lift is Better for Hips
Fat transfer to the sides of the butt will have a more natural result than implants. It is also easier to customize the fat transfer to get the specific results you want.
To see if this is the right choice for you, I recommend that you find yourself an experienced plastic surgeon for an examination and discussion of what can be achieved. (Gabriel Chiu, DO, Beverly Hills Plastic Surgeon)
Brazilian Butt Lift Vs. Butt Implants
To get the shape that you are seeking and not just larger buttocks, then liposuction followed by fat transfer to the desired areas is the desired approach. If you have the requisite amount of fat then the brazilian butt lift is the right choice. (Kris M. Reddy, MD, FACS, West Palm Beach Plastic Surgeon)
Brazilian Butt Lift vs. Implants
Fat can be injected easily into the trochanteric depression on the sides of your hips. Implants do not exist for this area.
Harvesting fat from the donor sites can give the added benefit of improving your overall shape. (Jon F. Harrell, DO, FACS, Miami Plastic Surgeon)
Brazilian butt lift vs Butt implants- Your own fat is best
We have done over a hundred Brazilian Butt lifts-No re-dos as of yet. The technique is safe and reliable. If a surgeon is telling you you might have to have a touch up, he’s telling you he doesn’t think a lot of his fat graft is going to survive. (Ricardo L. Rodriguez, MD, Baltimore Plastic Surgeon)
Butt augmentation with fat or implants
Both processes can help a woman obtain a fuller buttock. For fat transfer to be a good option, the patient has to have a certain amount of excess fatty tissue. If the person does not, then a butt implant would be the option.
You must be careful to make sure your Plastic Surgeon is experienced with both fat transfer an gluteal or buttock implants when you take their advice as most surgeons do not have experience with actual gluteal implants and tend to direct a patient toward what they are comfortable with and not always what options is better to achieve the results the patient is looking for. (William J. Hedden, MD, Birmingham Plastic Surgeon)
Fat transfer is probably the best method to increase in the HIPS and Buttocks area. However you need to have excess fat in other areas to donate for transfer to HIPS and BUTTOCKS. (Samir Shureih, MD, Baltimore Plastic Surgeon)
Hips seem to be the problem and not buttocks
Fat transfer could be done to any areas. The issue is to have enough to fill this area. This needs to be properly evaulated.
Now if you do not have enough, implants will not help you. (Hisham Seify, MD, PhD, FACS, Orange County Plastic Surgeon)
