I have a BMI of 33.5. I would like to have the gastric sleeve. Is it possible? What’s the costs?
Cost of Sleeve, BMI 33
Apr 13, 2017
Yes, it idefinitely possible to get a sleeve gastrectomy. The cost in the US ranges from about $11,000 to $25,000 or more. Just make sure when considering cost that you do not sacrifice quality of the program and that you consider all the included (or not included) variables. Some of those factors that may or may not be included in the price include cost of other providers (anesthesia, pathology or others), preop testing and postop care. A big one to…
Insurance for gastric sleeve in Tijuana?
Insurance for Complications in Mexico
Mar 26, 2017
I won’t be able to tell you whether or not your insurance will cover complications in your specific case, however, my experience has been that nearly all insurance companies will deny the claim and not pay for complications arising from cash-pay surgery done in Mexico, or elsewhere. There are always exceptions, of course, but generally, if the insurance company did not pay for the original surgery, they will not pay for any complications related to that surgery. We offer…
Would I be a candidate for gastric sleeve?
Candidate for a VSG, BMI 38
Mar 26, 2017
It sounds like you would be a candidate for a sleeve gastrectomy. Typically, insurance companies will require other related conditions (comorbidities) when your BMI is between 35-40 in order for them to pay for it. If you do not have the comorbidities that meet their criteria, you would still be a candidate for the procedure and could get it done, but you would have to pay for it yourself. We have competitive pricing as well as financing options as this situation occurs…
I am having VSG surgery and then want to have my tubes tied.
Tubal after VSG
Mar 26, 2017
There are a couple of ways to get this done. One thing to consider would be doing the tubal and the sleeve at the same time, which would save you a trip to the operating room for a second procedure. I have done this for patients when needed. Otherwise, I would probably wait at least 6 weeks, preferably 3 months if possible, to allow any postoperative risk from your first operation to return to normal.
Had hernia surgery with mesh. Would I be eligible for any bariatric weight loss surgery?
Hernia surgery and baiatric surgery
Mar 9, 2017
Yes, you would be eligible for bariatric surgery. Sometimes there are quite a few adhesions, or scar tissue, that develops after the hernia surgery, but I have done quite a few of these and it is generally not too much of a problem. Based on what you have described, I don’t think it will present too much of a problem moving forward.
Do I qualify for vertical sleeve gastrectomy and is it covered by my insurance?
Insurance Coverage of Sleeve
Mar 9, 2017
Sounds like you meet the general qualifications (BMI above 40) and are well informed, so I think the sleeve would be a good fit for you. If your insurance offers coverage for bariatrics, then you will meet the criteria. However, some insurance companies exclude bariatric surgery, in which case your BMI doesn’t really matter. The only way to know for sure is to call your insurance company and check, or if the program that you are considering offers that service the…
I have a stubborn 30 pounds of fat that will not go away.
Sleeve Gastrectomy with low BMI
Feb 5, 2017
There are some surgeons that will perform a VSG on patients with a BMI between 30-35 and some that will not. The ASMBS has revised its guidelines endorsing bariatric surgery for this group and have indicated that it is acceptable for patients in this BMI range to have surgery. For me personally, I do not exclude patients from surgery that are in this group and have personally performed many sleeves for patients with a BMI between 30-35 (such as yours). …
