Ways to lift buttock with surgery

There are two major ways of lifting the buttocks. One is the procedure known as the Brazilian butt lift and the other is the traditional excisional butt lift. So, what is the difference?

The Brazilian butt lift is recommend to those patients that have from mild to moderate butt sagginess and relative good skin tone. During this procedure, fat is harvested from your abdomen, flanks, axilla, upper and lower back and injected into the buttocks. The increase in volume will not only augment your buttocks but will also lift your butt to some extent. This is a total body transformation with improvement in your hip to waist ratio resulting in a better and curvier figure.

Now, if your butt is very saggy, then, injecting fat is not going to be the best option for you. In this case, an incision is performed (like a tummy tuck incision but instead of straight, the incision follows the curvature of the buttocks) and the actual excess of skin is removed.

This will remove the excessive skin and lift your buttock to a more youthful location. This procedure will not augment your buttocks, it will only lift your buttocks. If you have a buttock with a low projection, then, your buttock will still be with a low projection. Typically, the butt is augmented in a second surgery if the patient wants such change.

The results can be very natural, if done correctly. Fat is harvested (removed) from the abdomen, flanks, back, thighs, and arms. Those areas are lipo suctioned for the fat. The fat is then transferred to the buttocks. The key is have large volume, if there is enough fat, so that the right shape is achieved. (Shahin Javaheri, MD, San Francisco Plastic Surgeon)

A “regular” butt lift does not add projection to the buttock area like a Brazilian butt lift does. It only lifts the buttock area and tightens the skin.

This results in flattening of the butt. It also involves long incisions above the butt for the lift. A Brazilian butt lift involves liposuctioning areas of the body and injecting that fat into your buttock. The Brazilian butt lift results in a lifted and fuller buttock without incisions. Brazilian Butt Enhancement

You have to differentiate between a lift, which means there is sagging of tissue and then need a lift, which entails removal of excess skin, by cutting the excess. Buttock enhancement means you want more volume and roundness and shape to the buttock. This is Brazilian Butt Lift. (Samir Shureih, MD, Baltimore Plastic Surgeon)

Brazilian Butt Lift without Scars

In the right patient, a brazilian butt lift can be performed with small access incisions which are less than 1 cm. The purpose of the lift is to increase the fullness and roundness of the buttocks. It is typically performed by removing the fat through liposuction above, below, and around the buttocks. When removing the fat, it is carefully removed to prevent damage to the fat cell by employing hand guided liposuction and the fat is refined and then injected in multiple ares over the buttocks region itself. Through this technique for the brazilian butt lift, the buttocks will appear more round, have more projections, and appear full. (Ankit Desai, MD, Jacksonville Plastic Surgeon)

Brazilian Butt Lift and Butt Implants

If you want your buttocks to look rounder, there are basically 2 options: Buttock Implants or Brazilian Butt Lift. Both of these procedures can make your buttocks larger and sometimes rounder. The big difference is feel and safety. Buttock implants have a very unnatural feel, frequently an unnatural appearance and many potential complications with a high rate of need for additional surgery.

Brazilian Butt Lifts, however, are 100% natural feeling as well as looking, and rarely ever need additional surgery. As far as alternative “Buttocks Lift surgeries,” there are other techniques where we remove excess skin above the buttocks, but this is more for a severely drooping buttocks on someone who doesn’t want their buttocks any larger. So, if you are looking for an Apple Bottom, stick with the Brazilian Butt Lift. (Daniel P. Markmann, MD, Baltimore Plastic Surgeon)

Butt augmentation with fat injection defies logic. Injecting 700 – 1000 cc of fat in the butt is unlikely to survive. Most of that fat disappears. It might take a year for it to disappear and the small amount that remains, does not justify the cost and the possible complications.

Most importantly, the patient are disappointed with the very small increase in butt size. Butt implants in the sub-fascial location give a significant increase in butt size and complication rate is very small. With the new , very soft implants, they are not palpable and the result is very natural. Many of my patients refer their friends because they are very happy. (Shlomo Widder, MD, McLean Plastic Surgeon)

Brazilian Butt Lift is a fat transfer and not a true lift

The brazilian lift is a fat grafting and not a true lift. It works very well to add volume to the buttocks. In my mind it is becoming the standard of care for this specific goal. The other lifts include the lower body lift which is a true open (excisional) lift that include skin removal. (Hisham Seify, MD, PhD, FACS, Orange County Plastic Surgeon)

Brazilian Butt Lift and other butt lifts

1. Injection Butt lifts:

  • Injected artificial materials – not recommended
  • Injected fat (Brazilian Butt Lift) – Preferred method by those who do a lot of Butt lifts

2. Implant Butt lift: Silicon

3. Excision of Skin (Ricardo L. Rodriguez, MD, Baltimore Plastic Surgeon)
